Diagnosis pairs
Classic presentations and the test that changes management.
The PANCE is the PA certification exam administered by NCCPA. Items are organized by organ system and by task — history, diagnosis, management, and health maintenance — in adult and pediatric presentations.
NCCPA publishes the current content blueprint. Organ systems include cardiovascular, pulmonary, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, EENT, reproductive, endocrine, neurologic, psychiatric, and others. Task areas ask what you do: take a history, order a test, start a treatment, or counsel.
The exam is multiple choice. A useful card pairs a presentation with a next step or a first-line treatment, not a copied textbook chapter. Check the current blueprint before you clone an old deck. Step 1 mechanism cards and NCLEX priority cards belong in other queues.
Classic presentations and the test that changes management.
What you start, what you avoid, and the safety lab you need.
Screening and counseling items that the blueprint still weights.
Pediatric and pregnancy variants of common adult problems.
For a student who has finished supervised clinical practice. If you are still on rotations, card misses as you go and compress the last eight weeks.
Weeks 1–5
Walk organ systems against the current blueprint. Card diagnosis and next-step pairs you cannot say aloud.
Weeks 6–9
Mixed questions. Card the task you failed — you knew the disease and still missed the next lab.
Weeks 10–12
Longer blocks that resemble exam sitting. New cards only for repeated next-step errors.
PANCE cards should ask what you do. “Describe heart failure” is weaker than “first drug, first lab, first imaging.” Tag cards by task area so you can see whether you miss diagnosis or management.
Spaced repetition is how a large next-step set stays available after rotations. It is not a reason to import an unedited public deck that ignores the current blueprint.
Front: a vignette. Back: diagnosis plus the first action.
Card the finding that stops a drug or a procedure.
Ask who gets the screening and what you do with a positive.
600 next-step cards at 50 minutes a day for twelve weeks. Question blocks need additional time.
Estimate: 30 seconds per new card, 10 seconds per review. Fixed review gaps, not FSRS or a recall prediction.

No. Step 1 is a basic-science exam. The PANCE is a PA certification exam organized by organ system and clinical task.
Check the current NCCPA blueprint. Weights and task language change. Retire cards the blueprint no longer supports.
Card the miss from a case or a practice question the same day. Do not wait to “make a deck later.”
