Cells and energetics
Membranes, organelles, enzymes, photosynthesis, and respiration as they appear in figures.
AP Biology follows the College Board unit framework and is scored from a multiple-choice section plus free-response questions. The course is as much science practice — models, statistics, and experimental design — as it is a list of organisms.
Units run from chemistry of life and cell structure through energetics, cell communication, heredity, gene expression, evolution, and ecology. The exam expects you to use a model, interpret a graph, or justify a claim with evidence, not only name a process.
Free-response items often give data. Cards that only say “what is photosynthesis” will not help you write the sentence the rubric wants. Pair content cards with science-practice cards from the course and exam description, and keep AP Chemistry and A-level Biology as different decks if you sit more than one exam.
Membranes, organelles, enzymes, photosynthesis, and respiration as they appear in figures.
Mendelian crosses, linked genes, and molecular gene expression.
Evidence of evolution, population genetics, and energy flow in ecosystems.
Identify a control, describe a trend, and justify a claim with the given data.
For a student already in the course. If you are self-studying, keep the same phases and add a weekly lab-data block.
Weeks 1–8
After each unit test, keep only the cards for models and vocabulary you still miss. Do not rebuild the whole unit.
Weeks 9–14
Write short free-response answers under time. Card the verb you skipped: identify, describe, justify, calculate.
Weeks 15–18
Mixed multiple-choice and one more FRQ set. New cards only for repeated misses. Sleep before the exam, not a new unit.
AP Biology recall is often a sentence with a verb. “Describe the role of the inner membrane” is a different skill from “define mitochondrion.” Write cards that start with the verb the rubric uses.
Spaced repetition keeps unit vocabulary alive across a long school year. It will not write the FRQ for you. Alternate short card sessions with one written response.
Start the prompt with identify, describe, justify, or calculate.
Cover the caption and say the trend plus one limitation.
Remove one arrow from a cycle and ask what accumulates.
300 unit and science-practice cards at 25 minutes a day. Homework and FRQs sit outside this budget.
Estimate: 30 seconds per new card, 10 seconds per review. Fixed review gaps, not FSRS or a recall prediction.

No. AP Biology is a first-year college course with science-practice FRQs. MCAT biology sits in AAMC passages for a professional exam.
Card the models and a few named examples the course uses. An encyclopedia of species is the wrong deck.
Card the purpose of a control and the next measurement you would take. Do not card the entire lab handout.
You can turn a unit or notes into editable cards and quizzes in the web app. Review them against the course and exam description.
